TopStock Vizsla Kennels
Process and Policies Regarding the Selection and Purchase of a Puppy
TopStock Policies – Thank you for considering the purchase
of a TopStock Vizsla puppy. We are eager
to enhance the Vizsla breed and look for opportunities to achieve this through
specialized breeding and have carefully selected each Dam and Sire. This actually started in 2006, as we sought
to purchase our first brood bitch and found Penny. She has a high quality pedigree, loved the
show ring, and is extremely birdie in the field. As members of the Vizsla Club of America, we
adhere to the code of ethics and encourage those adopting a puppy to join the
VCA as well.
Through our efforts to breed a healthy puppy and one that meets
breed standards including bone structure as well as temperament, we hope to
provide an exceptional experience to each of the purchasers of one of our puppies. We expect each Vizsla puppy will find their
way into your heart and become a member of the family as Nasdaq and Penny did in ours. Thus, please forgive us if you feel we are
asking too many questions. It is the
responses to these questions that enable us to be certain each placement will
be a success, both for the puppy as well as for the purchaser.
The health of the dam and sire is equally important as is the
health of the puppies; and as such, we have confirmed the OFA certification of
their hips as well many of their ancestors.
With the assistance of very experienced breeders, pedigrees are
researched to provide the best opportunity to enhance the breed with each new
litter. Upon the arrival of the puppies,
their initial health care needs will be met and we will spend a great deal of
time with each so they will be well socialized and ready to go to their new
home. Their dew claws will be removed,
tails docked, and initial shots will be done prior to adoption. To reduce the concerns of each new puppy
owner, we offer health guarantees on each puppy we place.

Potential puppy owners willing to
achieve confirmation and field titles assist us as breeders in confirming our
efforts and success. Thus, show quality
puppies will be reserved and placed with families willing to obtain the
confirmation championship. Secondly,
puppies demonstrating a high interest in game birds will be reserved for
families willing to achieve field titles on their new puppy. The remaining puppies will be available for
pet homes. Puppies available for pet
homes are not inferior. We may not have
sufficient show or field homes, and thus willing to place a puppy as a
pet. They may also lack the exact
description of the Vizsla breed standard or lack a high interest in game birds
as a puppy. They will be healthy and be
placed with health guarantees.
Please understand while you may purchase a puppy from us, the
process will be more like an adoption.
We are seeking quality homes for each puppy and desire finding families
willing to make their new Vizsla a part of their family, and yet provide
challenges and the environment for their new puppy to excel. It is our policy to assist each purchaser in
the selection of the best puppy for their use and environment. Please expect a number of questions, and if
this is your first Vizsla, we are ready to answer your questions as well. Please remember, a Vizsla is not for
everyone. They do require more exercise
than a typical dog, as they are a gun dog; and without a way for them to
release their energy, they can be mischievous.
We reserve the right to not place any puppy when we believe it is in the
best interest of the puppy.
When a litter is available, reservations will be taken for the
puppies. Expression of interest can be
given at any time, and deposits are taken once we are certain Penny is
expecting. During the pregnancy, we will
attempt to confirm the number of puppies Penny is expecting and limit the
number of deposits to the expected number of puppies. We use
a contract with each puppy placement which outlines our guarantees, services,
and expectations. This includes our
commitment to assist in the placement of any of our puppies should the new
owner ever have to give up their Vizsla for any reason. During the first 60 days, we will use this
time to evaluate each puppy and determine the strengths and qualities of
each. We will determine which puppy
exhibits the qualities that may enable them to become a conformation
champion. Additionally, every puppy will
be evaluated as to their willingness to explore, birdiness,
and their health. Near the end of this
evaluation process, the price for each puppy shall be fixed if it has not
already been set.
While we attempt to breed a versatile Vizsla, we also seek to
achieve a champion that loves to work in the field as much as they love to play
with family members. Despite our desire
for each puppy in the litter to be a well rounded Vizsla, we recognize each has
their own personality, strengths, and likes.
Through our experiences and testing of each, we will attempt to identify
which will be best as a show, field, or family pet. This may also provide insight into which
puppy will be high energy and which may be a little calmer (although they will
still require exercise).
To complete the purchase of your TopStock Vizsla, each purchaser
is required to complete and sign an Agreement of Ownership.

Deposit
Agreement
By providing a deposit to TopStock Vizslas
(check made payable to James D. Horn) in the amount of $250.00 per puppy, the
terms and policies as outlined above are hereby accepted. Balance of payment will be due upon delivery
of puppy. Total purchase price is not to
exceed $1,600.00. Deposits will only be
accepted for available puppies, thus some potential puppy homes may be turned
away once deposits are received for all available puppies. Therefore, the deposit is non-refundable
except for the following conditions.
TopStock Vizslas will refund any
deposit as follows:
The purchaser is hereby seeking to purchase the following from
TopStock Vizslas:
Male Female (Check both boxes if either sex is
acceptable.)
Show Puppy Field Puppy
or
Pet (Check the ones
that apply.)
Show: A Vizsla puppy that appears to meet the
defined standard and has no faults. This
Vizsla should be able to be championed with reasonable effort. Its personality may be more obvious or
expressive (stronger), thus more appealing while in the show ring. This Vizsla may also show a desire to hunt
and has the ability to search a field, locate game, and point the game. The dog should not be gun shy. Lastly, the Vizsla should be able to be wiped
down after a long day in the field and be willing to play Frisbee, ball, or
some other game of their enjoyment. At
the end of the day, they should be on their bed or couch close to their human
family.
Field: A Vizsla puppy that has demonstrated a high
desire to hunt and strong interest in birds.
They may also be Show quality
but the requirement to champion them is not requested. Or, they may appear to lack one or more
features of the breed conformation standard, or may not enjoy show ring activity
and thus more difficult to champion.
This Vizsla, which may not be expected to be a conformation champion,
still is sound in structure and has the ability to search a field, locate game,
and point the game. They will not be gun
shy. They too will enjoy a game of
Frisbee, ball, or something else to their liking. They will end the day curled up near or next
to their human family.
Pet: This Vizsla may still meet the definitions of
either the Show or Field Vizslas
because of the quality of this breeding.
However, not every show or field Vizsla is able to find a home willing
to take on these endeavors. Or, they may
appear to lack one or more features in meeting the breed conformation
standard. Additionally, this Vizsla may
not demonstrate a high desire to hunt or interest in birds, at least as a puppy. The high energy, playfulness, and temperament
will remain strong characteristics and will have a sound structure. All of our puppies placed in a Pet home will
be on an AKC Limited Registration.
In the event Breeder has more
deposits than puppies available, those prospective New Owners willing to
champion or field title their new puppy will have the highest priority despite
the order or date the deposit was received.
The order of the remaining deposits received for Pet homes shall rank in
priority by the date the signed agreement and funds were received by the
Breeder. Those with the lowest priority
for which there is no puppy available, the deposit shall be refunded to the
prospective New Owner by Breeder.
In the event the reserved puppy is
not picked up by age twelve weeks or other mutually agreed upon date, the
deposit shall be forfeited and Breeder is no longer obligated to deliver a
puppy to New Owner.
